Dragon Skin these holidays! Good luck to our Venturers!

Watch the above video from Dragon Skin
2008 to see what our unit will get up to.

Well, it’s that time of year when our Venturers brave the wilderness for three days of hiking, camping, partying and insanity! Best of luck to all our teams who are venturing into Belangelo (I just got a chill down my spine!) At last count, we had combined teams with MCMK Venturers, Normanhurst and Berowra Venturers.

Go for it guys, have fun!

Tie Dye Night Goes Off!

Tom from Berowra Venturers had a great idea. Why not have a tie dye night? Berowra Venturers and Mount Colah Venturers would travel back in time where peace, love and incense where all that mattered.

Sounds exciting – and to a leader, sounds scary! The thought of our Venturers going home with blue or green faces that stay with them for rest of their life had me concerned – this could be as bad as looking like an Avatar warrior for the rest of your life!!

However, the night was really successful, and no one ended up with permanent die stains on them  – where they shouldn’t be.  Apart from blue hands, which you can live with, everything went smoothly.

For some strange reason, the Venturers that didn’t come prepared, had the most success! Tie dyeing is a “random” process, and something that’s fairly unpredictable. Tom seems to have mastered it though, and he knew how to make spirals and diagonal freaky patterns!

It was a great night for all the Venturers from MCMK and Berowra! I reckon we should do it again one night!

Greetings from MCMK Venturers!

It’s been a MASSIVE year so far!

MCMK Venturers have had a very full program this year!! To quickly summarise, the year kicked off with; a Snowy Mountains Bushwalk, a Brooklyn Dam camp, Roventure, Dragonskin, camping at the Tanks and Wannawang, bike hikes in the Blue Mountains, Urban Caving, Amazing Race in the city, fishing, and heaps of BBQ’s!

We currently have ten Venturers, including four girls! I’m sure we’re still growing as we now have a presence on Facebook, so lots of like-minded teens now know who we are and some of the activities we participate in. Check out our facebook page to see the latest on what we’re up to: http://www.facebook.com/mcmkvents We’re always keen on new Venturers, and we welcome parents to lend the occasional hand!

Although we enjoy sharing activities with the Berowra Venturers, it will be nice to have a place called home. I’m sure we will still maintain our joint activities with Berowra, and once we do have our new hall, it would be nice to reciprocate the generosity offered by them.

Although it’s been a big year, it ain’t over yet! Here are just some of the things that we’ve done this term!
– Can collecting to help with the overs
– Our own YouTube Film Festival night
– Calabash Castle Hike (sleeping in haunted ruins!)
– City Photo Scavenge Hunt
– Ventout – where we hang out with the Scouts, swim and speedboat

We still have these activities to do before the end of the year…
– Cycling over the Harbour Bridge
– Manly Waterworks
– Deep Pass Xmas Camp: Caving, swimming, exploring
– and the big end of year party!!!

So, as you can see, we’re a very active bunch! All the best to the rest of the Group and to the families who support us! We’ll see you all soon – in the new hall!!!

Cheers, Mazi
